Vegemite iSnack 2.0

It was just announced during the AFL broadcast that Kraft’s New Vegemite has officially been named iSnack 2.0.

I hope this is a fucking joke.

But the real purpose of this post is an experiment. Can SEO get this blog to the top of a Google search for “iSnack 2.0”?

What's wrong with like, Cheesymite, or something that makes sense?

Could be genius. Why if vegemite are already anticipating the response and are merely using the product launch to get the brand on everyones lips again?! Only to pull iSnack months later?! Just a thought.

But I do agree it's a horrible name.
Hopefully there is something deeper behind it all

    heard it tastes rank too…

    @ Lincoln

I suppose it could be a stunt, but what's the purpose of it exactly? Either way, I'm not even willing to try the new one let alone buy it.

    @ Alex

I assume Google has a faster turn around for picking up new content?

Americanised and try-hard, if you ask me. We are all happy eating our Vegemite in our individual ways so let's piss off the marketing up-starts and their stupid names by NOT BUYING THIS SHIT!

I didn't feel inclined to buy it in the first place, but this new name will make me go out of my way specifically not to, and to actively tell others not to either.

Join the Facebook cause to change this ridiculous name http://apps.facebook.com/causes/361402/45722039?m=7f359208 – Change the name of iSnack2.0. Fancy naming OUR Vegemites cousin after an American product. Bloody unAustralian that is!!

I think it's some non-computer literate marketing types trying to make it sound l33t (snort). I thought it was quite funny in the roll-your-eyes sense.

I was sitting with about 30 people at mate’s house and the ad came on announcing the new name. No shit, but everyone looked at each other with blank faces … then burst out laughing with lots of WTF’s throwin in.

@lincoln, it tastes good actually. But the situation reminds me of Victorians and football. 99% believe that there is only one football code and no other codes could be any good. They refuse to entertain the idea that another football code could be worth watching.

New Vegimite vs Old Vegimite doesn’t have to be a “or” proposition. I can be an “and” proposition. New ‘and” old vegemite in the cupboard. They both taste good on different things.

I'm struck with the same disappointment as when you hear about someone giving a child a really ridiculous name. Here's a list of gem's that "iSnack 2.0" is about on par with:

    http://www.cracked.com/article_15765_20-most-bizarre-celebrity-baby-names.html

A good product (agree with Daniel Oyston… it has it's place), but probably now doomed to be nothing more than a popular feature in future lists of "Top 10 dumb marketing decisions".

I like Cheeseymite above but maybe Baker's Delight wouldn't have a bar of it.

How about Vege-delphia, or Philly-mite, or Mitey-delphia… guess I'm coming a bit late to this party.

Zac, you're down to #8 in Google but up to #2 on Bing 🙂

Yea we thought of Cheesymite too when the naming campaign first started =)

But last night when the ad for the new name "isnack" came on, everybody in the TV room couldn't stop paying it out.

I hope my un-named jar lasts me forever – I refuse to buy it with the new name.

It's a joke that this stupid stupid product to begin with & now its stupid name is allowed to actually have the Vegemite logo on the jar. How embarrassing.!!

They have succeeded in taking the internet by storm with everyone talking about the product, but I for one, will not even dream of supporting it.
I have never even tried the product, yet it leaves a gross taste in my mouth thinking about it.

I think it’s an awesome piece of marketing. It doesn’t matter whether the product is any good or not, the name and the discussion generated has been incredibly good for the Vegemite brand. I’m sure the product itself will get dropped in 12 months time or so

I agree with the person above me; the marketing manager of Vegemite is a genius! The fiasco has reminded consumers of how much they love the original product, and also achieved massive brand awareness of the new product. Most importantly I believe the +/-ve WOM will generate big sales for both products. For example, take the following conversation between my mum and sister:
Mum: I think iSnack 2.0 is the stupidest name
Sister: Yeah but it tastes sooooo good!
Mum: Really? Did you want me to get it for us?

Also forgot to mention, the same day my mum and sis had that convo, a group of people at the gym were having a discussion about Vegemite for a good 5 mins. Made me hungry hehe
